A window is a highly complex product, especially if it is made of timber and is supposed to not only be a window, but also a piece of furniture: Indestructible, invincible and impermeable even in hurricanes.

Types of wood

As a renewable raw material, wood is not just ecologically and morally sensible, it is also the densest material in its own right and radiates a DEMONSTRABLE sense of warmth and well-being. It has also been demonstrated that the aromas released contribute more to health in the home than other materials. In this sense, wood is a superior material. DÖPFNER exclusively uses wood from local forests. The different woods such as spruce, oak, larch or pine grow slowly appropriate to their climatic conditions. Long transport distances are ruled out by concentrating on local types of wood.


Frame construction

The timber slats are either glued 3 times or 4 times and therefore guarantee extremely high stability and do not warp. The individual frame parts are connected with slot pins. Due to the clean processing of the frame timbers, parapet joints are kept very narrow and are filled with a special sealing compound, which makes the penetration of water impossible. 
Glass strips are not nailed on, as is usual elsewhere, but clipped on using a concealed screwed fastening rail.



No silicone is used for glazing the elements, instead the panes are dry glazed with high-quality sealing material. All laminated panes, whether double or triple glazed, have a so-called "warm edge" in the form of a completely redesigned insulating glass edge seal. This ensures that cold is not transported from the outside to the inside. This counteracts the formation of condensation in the corners of the windows.
The type of glazing and installation of the glass in the frame play a major role in a building or room’s energy efficiency.



As a rule, 2 sealing levels are installed in the window. These are so-called center seals and sash upstand seals. The seals ensure optimum soundproofing and insulation.



The window fitting is responsible for an element’s function, durability and safety. The higher the windows’ weights or formats are, the greater the stress on the fittings or hinges. This makes it all the more important not only to have a high-quality fitting design but also to adjust and maintain the window correctly. Only then will it be possible to move the casement smoothly and reliably in both the tilt and turn positions. DÖPFNER uses VIMATIC 3D hinges as standard. These are invisible side hung or side hung and bottom hung hinges which are concealed in the window rebate. Exact adjustment, maintenance and care contribute significantly to the window’s durability. When it comes to security, the entire window system, including fittings, is put to the test. Because the higher the security requirement, the more locking points the system requires. And these "points of friction" must do their job over decades.


When finishing DÖPFNER timber windows and exterior doors, great attention is paid to treating the surface.
Because the surface of your windows and exterior doors has many important tasks to fulfill:

  • Ideally, the surfaces on the inside should resemble pieces of furniture. The natural structure and grain of the wood and its shade are preserved as desired. Glazed, oiled or opaque designs are possible.
  • The options are naturally even more varied with exterior doors. This starts with knotty woods and extends to brushed versions or variants in WOOD OIL. The PROTOR surface is a highly stable, fine-pored and scratch-resistant surface.


  • On the outside, the surface treatment has the task of optimally withstanding weathering and the tension between cold and heat.
  • As far as the durability of the surface is concerned, the development of impregnation and paints has progressed to such an extent that they are 100% water-soluble and have incredible mechanical and chemical resistance.

Of course, the painting process is one of the crucial factors.
At DÖPFNER all the elements are coated 3 times as standard.
This means that priming or impregnation is applied first, then an intermediate layer is applied and finally a spraying robot ensures the final requested custom finish. In special cases up to four layers can be applied.
